A kayaker bought greater than he bargained for on a visit of New Zealand’s Kaikoura island when a seal slapped him within the face with an octopus.

The video reveals the seal popping out of the water, octopus in mouth, swinging the mollusc towards the unsuspecting kayaker.

The seal then disappears again into the water earlier than happening to dive in between different kayakers.

Taiyo Masuda, 23, caught the seal on video and says the group didn’t realise at first what the seals had been doing.

“Proper round lunchtime, a number of seals began to swim round, we simply thought they had been refreshing their physique, but apparently they had been in search of meals,” Mr Masuda instructed Reuters.

“One seal swims proper subsequent to us, having an octopus in his mouth, pops proper as much as the floor subsequent to us, then tries to chew up the leg however ended up slapping our face!!”
