Mike Trout rookie card sells for nearly one million dollars (Reports).
Los Angeles Angels star outfielder Mike Trout had the third-highest salary in all of Major League Baseball during the 2019 season. Now a Trout rookie baseball card is selling for a record $900,000, according to Action Network’s Darren Rovell. Trout’s autographed Bowman Draft Chrome Prospect card was sold via Goldin Auctions. It ties the record for the most expensive modern card ever sold, along with a Michael Jordan/LeBron James card sold for $900,000 back in February. It “obliterated” the record for the highest-priced baseball card in the modern era, according to Rovell.
There were several cards and pieces of memorabilia from other stars like Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and James that were sold at the same auction as the Trout card. Several high-profile pieces of Jordan memorabilia have been sold in the wake of the popularity of “The Last Dance.”
As for the Trout card, it is not surprising that it sold for such an insane amount. After all, Trout has established himself as one of the top players in the league since winning the Rookie of the Year Award in 2012. In nine MLB seasons, he has hit .305 with 185 home runs to go along with 752 RBIs while posting a .581 slugging percentage. Trout has drawn comparisons to New York Yankees great Mickey Mantle throughout his MLB career, which is even more fitting now: Mantle is on one of the most famous and expensive baseball cards.
